Artist Spotlight: Patrick Droney

Your second album ‘Subtitles for Feelings’ was released at the end of last Summer and you’ve spoken about spending time in the Highlands with Foy Vance when writing for the album. How did being over in Scotland shape the work you produced? Was there anything in particular about being here and with Foy that you were really influenced by?

Space and Time are constant collaborators in the creative process. Foy and I could have been in New York or Nashville and come up with a completely different set of songs out of that experience. For me, the beauty in the landscape, the early morning walks through the town square and the peace I felt in the Highlands created such a safe space to exist in the moment. Foy is one of my favorite humans and artists so for that time to be so concentrated and the gaps be filled by such colors - it was a real gift. I’ll always remember my time in Scotland. 

This will be your first show in Glasgow and at King Tut’s, what are you most looking forward to about playing here?

For me it’s just a chance to connect in real-time with my friends I haven’t met yet. The music connects us so deeply and to meet that energy in the room for the first time is one of my favorite feelings. 

What’s one song that you wish you would’ve written and why?

“I love you always forever” by Donna Lewis - I think it’s just a perfect record. There’s nothing like hearing that guitar line and knowing you’re in for a few minutes of bliss.
